Execution Approach · Cabling Remediation
Server room consolidation and cable management standards will be executed as vendor-performed cabling remediation, bundled into hardware work already planned under this program. Researched July 2026.
Sourcing: Vendor, Not In-House
Remediation is high-hour physical labor best performed by a licensed low-voltage contractor with proper dressing, labeling, and testing equipment. Keeping this off the field team preserves service capacity at current staffing ratios. As facility infrastructure work, it is billable to the facility entity rather than carried as IT labor.
Cost Benchmarks
Commercial low-voltage labor runs $75–150/hr. A typical IDF closet remediation is a two-person crew for 1–2 days, roughly $1,500–$4,000 per closet; MDF/server rooms run higher. Abandoned cable removal adds 5–15% to scope. Full-portfolio standalone estimate: $30–60K. Daytime work is viable since closets are not patient-facing, avoiding the 25–50% after-hours premium.
Execution Model: Bundle, Not Standalone
Attach remediation and labeling scope to the switch refresh and UPS work in this program, when every cable is already being touched. This captures the cleanup at marginal cost, one facility at a time, instead of a standalone portfolio project. Pilot one facility first to establish a per-closet rate and deliverable standard; multi-site pricing improves meaningfully over one-off engagements.
Deliverables
The real product is documentation, not tidiness: per-closet port maps, labeled patch panels and cords, and before/after photo records. Labeled closets enable remote troubleshooting through on-site facility staff, a direct service-quality gain at current tech-to-facility ratios.
Safety & Code Requirements
Vendor scope must include tone-and-trace verification of every cable before removal; legacy runs may serve nurse call, door control, or other life-safety systems. NEC 800.25 requires abandoned communications cable be removed or tagged for future use, so removal also closes a code gap in licensed healthcare buildings.
Vendor Landscape
Three vendor types offer this: structured cabling contractors (best fit, e.g. regional low-voltage shops), MSPs offering it as a project service (higher rates for the same labor), and specialized data center cleaning firms (adds dust/physical remediation for neglected rooms). Target: a regional structured cabling contractor scoped as a multi-site engagement.
